Every company, and most especially startups, have their own language.
SOCIALDEVIANT is no exception.
But we have one expression that I dearly love…and which took me about 5 months to understand.
I started the company by myself – no partners, no investors, nada. Which meant, there was no pre-existing jargon.
So when I hired our first two hires, I began to sense a pattern of patter emerging.
And one expression that stuck out among the rest – OSM.
In almost every email, txt, tweet…OSM would make an appearance.
Try as I might, I simply couldn’t decode it.
O. S. M. is how I’d say it in my head. Maybe, I thought, the acronym has some special, arcane meaning among millenials.
And just like the awkwardness around someone’s name if you don’t catch it by the 2nd time you’ve met them…I realized that I’d missed my window for asking exactly what it meant.
Week upon week trundled by at socialdeviant, with OSM showing up more and more, and me, increasingly isolated from the jargon that was defining our culture. Crazy.
Finally, I got the courage to ask.
And finally, I got the answer.
A much cooler and txt friendly way to say…wait for it….awesome.
So, there. We now have osm meetings, osm sauce, and osm pitch, an osm client, new osm deviant talent, and more.
But above all, we’ve got an osm set of deviant expressions, that bind us together and help define us as a company.
Just curious – what expressions define the osm-ness of your company?
