At socialdeviant, we are all makers. All of us.
In big and small ways, we create. We make. We do. We turn thoughts into things.
This is especially on my mind of late for a few reasons.
First, we’ve been accepted to host a Chicago Ideas Week Workshop, entitled “Turning Thoughts into Things.” More on this later, but super cool and a superb opportunity to showcase how we turn kindness into an operating model, into a roving trolley of kindness, and into a sea of assets and content.
Second, we were originally incorporated under the name “Thoughts and Things.” I wanted to launch a company that was less talk, more do. Less show, more go. A company that understood that if we think it, we’d better be able to make it. That focused on creating something, at every turn. And of course, creating value all along the way.
Third, it seems only fitting to resurface a recent blog post – The Deck Is Not the Deliverable: https://socialdeviantmusings.com/2014/05/20/the-deck-is-not-the-deliverable/
Which of course, inspired my most recent Zen of Ten, titled obviously: https://socialdeviantmusings.com/2014/07/22/zen-of-ten-10-more-minutes-each-week-turning-a-thought-into-a-thing/
I’m reminded of a story when skiing with the family many years ago. We took a group lesson, and after the instructor left, I was trying to recall all of the things he said, and doing my best to share them with my son, Jack. We stood at the top of the run, with me running tahrough all of the “this’s and that’s” about great skiing. Jack was silent. Then finally looked at me, and said calmly, “Hey Dad…less talking, more skiing.” More skiing indeed, my man, more skiing indeed. What I most love about socialdeviant is that we make it so. Full stop.
We are all makers, all of us. And together, we have the opportunity to make something truly remarkable here.
